2015 represented a key moment in the movement to end extreme poverty with the launch of the Sustainable Development Goals and the post-2015 development agenda. This multilateral agreement highlights two key areas: the interconnectedness of social, environmental, and economic factors and the need to address all three in tandem, and the importance of every country doing their fair share to promote sustainability and equality.
This year Oaktree is campaigning for Australia to step up and play their part in creating our collective future by increasing funding for climate finance. As a part of this campaign we partnered with a number of compelling experts, unique allies and change-makers across a range of actions.
- On November 14 nearly 400 volunteers from Oaktree and their partner organisations knocked on 8224 doors around Australia to have powerful conversations with everyday Australians about the impact of climate change.
- On November 20 Oaktree and global campaigning organisation, Avaaz, held an action outside Prime Minister Turnbull’s Office in Sydney to present a joint petition signed by over 605,00 people calling upon the PM to make Australia a leader in committing to climate finance funding and action on climate change.
- On November 27-29, the weekend before the Paris Climate Summit, in conjunction with other like-minded organisations, Oaktree volunteers will be joining with the People’s Climate March in every capital city around Australia to make a stand for global action on climate change.
