Campaigners for Change

Become a Campaigner for Change, and join a movement of young people fighting for a fairer world.

Oaktree’s Campaigners for Change will bring together over 100 diverse young people for a year-long transformative program, to build skills and drive social change in communities across the country.

This program is a chance to learn about campaigning and take meaningful social action on the issues you care about. You’ll build skills in everything from media pitching to lobbying politicians- no prior experience necessary! We’ll also cover valuable skills in project management, teamwork, and communication that you can use wherever you go.

You’ll have the autonomy to get creative and coordinate your own campaign actions, with support from a team of experienced volunteers.

At Oaktree, we have a vision for a world free from poverty, where everybody, everywhere can realise their human rights and reach their full potential.  We’re building an active social movement to strengthen communities and break down systems of injustice, because we believe that poverty is unacceptable and can be ended within our lifetime.

Our world needs leaders to make this vision a reality. It needs visionaries, activists, allies, learners, movers and shakers. It needs passion, hope, and action. It needs those people who’ll lend their hand, their voice, their time, their signature, their passion and energy to a cause worth fighting for.

It needs a powerful movement. It needs you.

"I have learnt so many things with Oaktree that I don't even know where to start! Things like resilience, leadership skills, and valuable lessons about what Austalia is doing to fight poverty. The best thing is the feeling you get when you make an impact."

- Cat, Oaktree campaigner

Oaktree is young people leading a movement to end poverty. We’re volunteers from all walks of life, who come together in offices around the country to make a difference. We’ve run campaigns that have brought 1000 young people to Parliament, and we partner with young changemakers across the Asia-Pacific to fight poverty and inequality.

Our vision? A more just, cooperative and sustainable future for everyone.

We are committed to investing in the power of young people to create change at the local and global level. Campaigners for Change is our newest program, supporting young Australians to realise their potential as leaders.

Got questions? Check out our list of frequently asked questions (and answers!) below. If you’re still unsure, you can send us an email at campaigners@oaktree.org

How much time will I need to dedicate to be a Campaigner for Change?

You’ll need to be able to commit to a two-hour session a week, which will include time for training workshops and campaign action. There will also be two weekend retreats as part of the program. And don’t worry- we’ll be taking a break over exam time!

Do I have to pay for this program?

Participants will be asked to contribute $100 to cover the cost of your training, as well as food and accommodation during the weekend retreats. However, we are offering a number of scholarships to make sure that money is not a barrier for anybody to take part. You can apply for a scholarship when you sign up.

Do I need any prior experience to join the program?

Not at all! We’ll give you all the training you need, and there’s never a silly question.

What is the recruitment process like?

Once we receive your application, you will be invited to an interview in your state. These interviews are a way for you to know what to expect from the program, and to make sure you’re able to make the commitment. If successful, we will contact you with an offer to begin the Campaigner journey.

Will I be campaigning alone in my school or university community?

The program will allow you to connect with other young people in your community to take action together. You’ll be working in teams of people from the same community, so you don’t have to worry about going it alone.

What happens if I can’t attend all the training sessions?

While you’ll need to attend most of the trainings to get the most out of the program, we understand that life gets in the way sometimes. It’s ok if you need to miss a session or two, just let your team leader know and we’ll catch you up afterwards.

Can I still be involved with Oaktree after I complete the program?

Absolutely! There are all sorts of ways to stay involved, whether you want to take on a bigger leadership role, become a volunteer, or get involved with our other campaigns in your state.

Where do I sign up?

We’re glad you asked- just click here!
